'Boy from the Moor' is a search for a missing person in the turbulent world of the twentieth century. I am looking for my father, Peter Balkwill, who disappeared in Aden at the time of its independence from Britain.

The story begins on Hatherleigh Moor in north Devon at the close of World War I, chronicling historical moments through the eyes of the people who lived them, before dropping us off in Aden in the 1990s. It is my attempt to understand the times, places, and characters in his life and mine - and, ultimately, to make sense of my father's disappearance.
